Events & Books
Free East Anglian Landscape Network events in Norwich and Colchester; Oxford-Lisbon-London readings; Books for sale: Dead the Long Year & The Old Weird Albion back in stock!
There is no podcast this week for a number of reasons, but I’ll be back next week with the fabulous artists Daniel & Clara!
But I would like to invite you to some events going on and let you know about a few ways to support Uncanny Landscapes by ordering my books, which I’ve now restocked.
East Anglian Landscape Network
If you’re in/near the East of England, you might be interested in the EALN - a chance to develop a ‘community of practice’ through meeting face-to-face with other contemporary landscape practitioners in our oft-neglected region. There are two EALN meetings scheduled now - in Norwich and Colchester - with further events being planned in Cambridgeshire and Suffolk. Watch this space and/or The EALN on Instagram. Each event features informal presentations by several practitioners followed by a chance to have a drink, chat, and exchange ideas with people in related fields of interest.
8th of March in Norwich at The Holloway: with presentations from eco-culture activist Bridget McKenzie; Elizabeth Bennett who researches folk music and landscape; and landscape-inspired sculptor Sarah Horlock. This event is sold out but contact me if you’re certain you’d like to attend and we’ll see if we can make a waiting list. (Another event at The Holloway will be scheduled soon!)
21st of March at Dice & a Slice, Queen St., Colchester: with presentations from artists Daniel & Clara; curator and architect Hana Loftus; Gemma Garland of the East Anglian Folklore Centre; and Dengie bioregionalist James Piers Taylor. Still a few tickets available (free) here: tinyurl.com/EALNCol
My Events
I’ve got a few other cool things coming up.
17th of March - Oxford I’ll be reuniting with musician Sharron Kraus for an event at Caper Books in Oxford celebrating my novella Dead The Long Year. Tickets are on sale now for what’s going to be a really unique evening of music and literature.
26th of March - Lisbon I’m introducing a screening of We Are Making a Film About Mark Fisher, as well as performing a set of texts and music with João of local legends Beautify Junkyards. It’s at the marvelous restaurant-slash-indie space Damas and tickets are on the door only, so mark your calendar. Follow Damas for info.
13th of April - London at the Colony Room Green I’ll be discussing Dead The Long Year and magick and modernism in Edwardian London with the great Travis Elborough at the Colony Room, in the approximate location of the original Cave of the Golden Calf, setting for my novella Dead The Long Year. Free, just show up!
Books for Sale:
Dead The Long Year (order direct from me in UK) is a novella set in London, 1912, concerned with the real-life bohemian artist and actress known as Ione de Forest, muse to Victor B. Neuburg and Ezra Pound; nemesis of Aleister Crowley.
The Old Weird Albion (order direct from me in UK) is a psychogeographic walking-memoir about the South Downs in Sussex, concerned with family ghosts, earth mysteries and the ways in which people ‘hide’ memory in the landcape.
