(This episode ends with ‘Openness’ from the Are You Lost? project, performed by Nita Burrows with Rob St John.)
Rob St John is a writer and artist whose work includes field recordings, music, installations and socially engaged practice. After years of making artwork and music (including with his band Modern Studies) around the country, Rob has now returned to his homelands of Lancashire to make community-engaged artworks based around listening, sound-mapping and other sonic and written media with the people of the East Lancashire region, near the Forest of Bowland National Landscape.
His year-long project Are You Lost? opens this weekend (28th of June, 2025) for a summer-long engagement in places around the Forest of Bowland. There are events, as well as chances to check out the sound maps and other pieces created with people from the community.
All the music and field recordings you’ll hear in this episode are by Rob St John and available from his website or Blackford Hill Records.
